I couldn’t walk 500 miles, but…

…I did manage to cycle 106 miles (170.6 km) today (apologies to the Proclaimers)!  Strava, which measures horizontal distance covered is a bit less at 102.2 miles (164.5 km) – you can see my route below.

The wind was much stronger than ideal, so my average of 22km/hour wasn’t quite as good as I’d hoped – cyclists on the major tours have averages roughly twice as fast!  However, it’s not bad for an overweight 63 year old.

A couple of summers ago, I found myself in the same
predicament. You should pay more attention to rack your
bike properly, as if you fall off the rack, you will be penalized.
Carry a couple of energy bars or sports gels (around 200-300 calories each) and eat or drink one at least every
hour to hour and a half.
