Heating Up in Tripoli

Leaving a snow bound sub-zero Warsaw on Monday, I’m now enjoying some warm weather in Tripoli, Libya, where temperatures yesterday (Friday) were near 30°C.  As a Moslem country, Libyans’ weekend is centred on Friday when they visit the many mosques for prayer.  As has become usual on a Friday morning I visited the Church of Christ the King,  an Anglican/Episcopalian church in the heart of the medina (Old Town).

A dispute between Libya and Switzerland has created difficulties for citizens of Schengen countries wishing to visit Libya.  Reports indicate that a number of visiting tourists have been turned back at Tripoli airport.  It would be good if the dispute could be settled quickly without any longer term damage to Libya’s attractions as a tourist and business destination.

The usually busy streets of Tripoli are very quiet on a Friday morning as you can see from my photographs.
