As has now become traditional, immediately after New Year we took a week’s rental of a holiday home. This year we were near Ledbury in Herefordshire and ‘enjoyed’ some cold weather and snow as well as the attractions of the county and its neighbours.
Accommodation
Our holiday let was a moated manor house, “The Woodhouse“, a Grade II listed property dating from the 15th Century.
The house was very comfortable, but tall people like me need to take care with the low doorways and timber beams to be found in the house!
Malvern Hills
On New Year’s Day we had a walk in the Malvern Hills. Conditions were lovely with temperatures around 0 degrees C, although it was rather slippy underfoot on the tops.
Ledbury Walks
We had a couple of walks starting from the house and following local footpaths. As the week progressed, the snow came giving a different perspective of the countryside!

Hay on Wye
Another tradition is a visit to Hay on Wye to stock up on books. As well as being an attractive small town, Hay on Wye has over 30 bookshops selling second hand and specialist books. As usual, I left Hay Cinema Bookshop with a couple of carrier bags of books and after a couple of visits to other booksellers found myself with another couple of bags full. Luckily I have a Miles-and-More Senator card and didn’t face any additional baggage charges on my return flight to Warsaw.
